Today, Sen. Mike Doherty (R-23) and I stood together in Trenton in opposition to Democrats’ plans to raise the New Jersey gas tax.
The gas tax is a regressive tax that hurts our already over-burdened residents. We need lower taxes, not more taxes.
Sen. Doherty and I both believe that there are reasonable alternatives to a gas tax increase that would help us to meet our transportation funding needs without inflicting more pain on Garden State taxpayers.
I presented a plan to fund New Jersey’s roads and bridges without increasing gas taxes, and Sen. Doherty explained how his legislative effort to reduce our highest-in-the-nation highway costs should be part of the solution.
We have heard from many residents, both Democrats and Republicans, that they oppose a gas tax increase too.
